See the Yellow Pages for Orthopedic Appliance, Orthotists, Prosthetics, Wheelchairs, Scooters, Lifts, Ramps, etc., rental and retail. Some pharmacies and hardware stores may stock useful equipment or devices.

Orthotics: Orthotics are braces made or fitted especially for you that will assist in your mobility. The most common are AFOs (Ankle-Foot Orthosis) and KFOs (Knee-Ankle-Foot Orthoses). They require a prescription from your physician to order. Your Physical Therapist together with the Orthotist can assist in recommending the best orthotic for you. Medicare and Medi-Cal cover orthotics in most cases. Private insurance companies give approval on a case-by-case basis.

  • This program provides products and services to assist with telephone use free of charge (e.g., speaker phones, large dial pads, etc.). Even if not available through CTAP, phones with the speaker in the handset do exist and are very convenient.

College of Marin Adaptive PE

  • Disabled Students Programs and Services This is a credit fitness program based on exercising, stretching, yoga, body work and weight lifting, developed for each student in accordance with his or her physician’s recommendations. Emphasis is on physical fitness, body tone and coordination. Prerequisite: Meeting with instructors and completion of physician’s form.

Diabled Sports USA Far West

  • Provides adaptive sports and recreation programs for people with disabilities.  Both winter and summer activities are offered, including the Tahoe Adaptive Ski School at Alpine Meadows, Lake Tahoe

Marin County Department of Health and Human Services – Marin on the Move

  • An on-line directory of activities.

Marin Jewish Community Center

  • Comprehensive physical fitness programs including strength training in warm pool. Individualized exercise five days a week. Programs include: neuromuscular training to engage motor pathways, aerobic exercise, and Feldenkrais.
